In illinois, can a 13 year old work at a restaurant that his aunt manages but does not own?
Author: admin // Category: managing a restaurantRight now money is tight and my father hasn’t had job a job in over a year and we are living of of the money the state is giving him but that is not enough to pay for bills and grocery and gas. so i wanted to work with my auntie but she only manages the restaurant but does not own it.Can i do it or will it get her in trouble?
I don’t think it’s legal for a 13 year old to work anywhere. I think it’s 15 and up, but that is so sweet of you wanting to work.

oh that’s so sweet <3
haha i think it really depends on how close your ant is to the owner…cause its probably not legal for you to be on pay role but maybe if your aunt is close to the owner she might be able to pull a few strings and you might get a couple bucks and hour not a lot but it can help a little.

I’m so sorry. You can’t. The earliest that you can do work in Illinois is age 14, and there are quite a few requirements for employers who employee 14 and 15 year olds. Perhaps you can get a paper route, baby-sitting, or lawn mowing job. It is commendable that you care so much about your family’s finances. Remember that this economy will turn around eventually.

If it was family owed, I believe you could work at the restaurant. Since your aunt just manages it, you can’t work there. Your father could work there with no problems.
